Reminders-I
Something I've forgotten for way too long now and was providentially reminded of in church today. Part of being saved and redeemed means we are given the authority of Christ. You and I have the power of the triune God flowing through our veins but yet we don't use it! We are legalists to ourselves. We hold yourselves to a standard of perfection in life that God neither expects nor requires of us because we can't physically reach it. We'll fail every single time. And we underestimate that authority that we've been given through Christ, even over our own minds.
Our thoughts, emotions, everything is under that power. And like it says in Jude, we have to fight to keep ourselves in the love of God. It's so easy to forget. But as the Father loves the Son, so He loves us because of the sacrifice of the Lamb. We can preach the gospel to others, but why do we never preach it to ourselves? Why is it we wake up and get in our own heads instead of saying "Lord I know You love me, help me to live for You today in that love."?? Satan knows the impact of the authority of Christ, which is why his tactic again and again is to weaken the body then take the kill shot. And if we aren't constantly reminding ourselves of the truth, how are we ever going to get free of that? It's easy to tell others God loves them, sure. But we have to preach that to ourselves too. There has to be room for mercy in our Christianity. And that includes mercy for ourselves. Jesus suffered long and yet let us go free. We don't need to live under the weight of everything that held Him to the cross.
All that to say, remind yourself of the truth today. Stand on it. I'll be doing the same, and don't forget who you are.-SG
